Jean (from the Aquitaine region of France), wanted to create the exterior landscaping in front of his house, which he marked with green plastic mulching fabric.

This allows the soil to be well isolated before planting to prevent “weeds” from growing. Although practical, we don’t recommend this type of non-biodegradable canvas, which suffocates the soil. Instead, we recommend those ofnatural origin, which will degrade over time, leaving room for ground cover plants that will prevent the spread of these “undesirables”.

This design is successful because it respects certain landscaping rules:

>A homogeneous plant palette with a limited number of assorted species

>many evergreens

>a repetition of certain plants (here, agapanthus) to create the background.

However, it would have been nice to mark out this bed with a few taller plants (2-3 m), known as verticals in professional jargon. Shrubs, dwarf trees or climbing plants on the wall would have done the trick.
