As soon as we build or buy a house and the warm weather arrives, we all have one idea: to design our own garden.

Most of the time, people go about it in a haphazard way, with no real thought given to the overall picture, and end up with a garden that has no soul and is not sufficiently functional. Here are our tips and ideas for avoiding this.

To make sure you don’t make a mistake when designing your garden, we recommend that you proceed as a landscape gardener would:

Start by writing down what you want, drawing on your memories of childhood gardens. It’s all about using your senses.

Then define how you’re going to use the garden, and set up dedicated areas for play, vegetable gardening, relaxation and so on. Don’t forget to set aside storage space for gardening/sport/craft/reserve equipment…it’s always too small. You’ll have to hide it, because in 90% of gardens this space/cabin/workshop is ugly and spoils the harmony of the garden, whereas a small hedge or climbing plants will hide it quickly and well.

As far as plants are concerned, before heading off to the first nursery that comes along to buy 4 plants, be sure to take into account the constraints of your new garden.

Our garden design site is there to help you: the ingenious system uses your address alone to determine the environmental constraints of the site, and suggests the plants best suited to it (soil quality, temperature, etc.).

Similarly, we’ve provided you with a choice of plants adapted to the time you wish to devote to themSo when you choose your plants, use the “Maintenance” option to choose from less than once a year to more than 3 times a year.

Finally, draw up a layout plan for the future garden, defining the zones, their uses and the desired ambience, even in a small garden.

Remember to always keep the style in line by choosing colors, materials and shapes in the same or similar style, and plants adapted to these moods.

From then on, you can take front photos of each of these spaces and create the corresponding layout with our My Garden Designer system.

Now it’s your turn to create!
