Having a pretty, welcoming entrance is essential to feeling at home. In fact, it’s important to take special care when designing your home’s entrance so that it looks beautiful in all seasons.

First of all, it has to be practical, with a dry, mud-free driveway to keep the house clean. A straight driveway will be more contemporary, but if you have the space and like a more natural look, don’t hesitate to make it slightly winding.
A sloping surface is preferable to a few steps which, over the years, will seem higher and higher.
If necessary, think about a space where you can put the garbage cans and the sorting, or even the composter.
As for plants, play with the colors of foliage and branches (e.g. hornbeam) to bring color into winter.
Blooms should be spread out over the months, and structuring plants should set the scene. It might be a good idea to liven it up with a few flowering annuals that you change at the start of each season.
Remember to keep your garden entrance well lit, because in winter you’ll often only see the nocturnal version of it during the week. An external socket will also come in handy for plugging in Christmas lights or a floor-cleaning karcher.
