If you’re planning to fit out your apartment’s roof terrace but don’t know how to go about it, here’s some advice for you:apartment roof terrace

to get started:

Determine where you want to hide from view from the terrace, but also from the inside, so that you can isolate yourself from the rest of the house by installing tall plants or screens.

Don’t forget the bird’s-eye view from the upper floors: a well-stowed pergola can hide you from curious onlookers.

For a cocooning spirit, don’t hesitate to use several pots of the same shape and/or color, with plants of different sizes and matching shades.

Care should be taken on green roof terraces not to plant overly vigorous plants such as bamboo. We recommend that you plant them in a pot/garden planter, as their thick roots could otherwise pierce the waterproofing flashing and create water damage on the floor below. If you want to plant directly, opt for small grasses and other turf-type plants.

Why not create a green space that allows nature and biodiversity to return? See p. 29 of this well-done document.

Last but not least, don’t hesitate to change the floor by adding wood or contemporary interlocking materials on top of the existing one.
