Hello and welcome to the blog of mon jardin-ma terrasse.com. Our team will provide you with all the information you need to create the garden of your dreams. Whether it’s a balcony, terrace, small garden or even a large space, we’ll tell you all about it!

To do this, we’ll start by looking at what you need to think about before you start: what questions to ask, how to go about it, what tools to use… Then we’ll take a closer look at some typical gardens (Mediterranean, Japanese, tropical, natural…) and trends inoutdoor design (design, bohemian, kitchen garden, green wall…). And let’s not forget to talk about the stars: plants (which ones to choose for your environment, what maintenance they require…).

Last but not least, we’ll be presenting the latest news and creations from My Garden Designer, our garden and terrace design tool. We’ll give you all the tips and tricks for using this e-landscaper and showcase your creations, but that’s all for now 😉

To begin with, and to make things a little clearer, let’s take a look at the definitions of the world of gardens, garden design and the people involved (gardeners, landscapers, landscape engineers, landscape architects, DPLG landscapers…).

Surprising as it may seem, whenever we make a transformation to our outdoor space, it’s all about landscaping.

Definition oflandscaping : transforming an outdoor space to make it more practical and aesthetically pleasing.

Landscape definition: a space with a certain aesthetic or practical identity.

This definition allows us to say that our garden, terrace or balcony can be assimilated to a landscape ;).

This is the logical starting point for the main player in the landscaping process: the landscaper.

Definition of Landscaper:

A professional who carries out a planning study for a space on any scale: from the region to the garden and everything in between.

He is as much an urban planner as a territorial player, and bases his actions on multidisciplinary knowledge of the natural sciences (botany, horticulture, climatology, geology, geomorphology, etc.) and cultural sciences (history, urban planning, architecture, civil engineering, sociology, economics, etc.).

At this point, we realize that landscaping (in the broadest sense) is more suited to large surfaces than to our small gardens and terraces. This definition describes landscape architects, also known as DPLG landscape architects.

The ” Paysagiste” title Since the “landscape” profession is unregulated, it can be difficult for ordinary people to find their way around… All trades can call themselves landscape architects: from those who design and have a 5-year degree from a leading landscape school, to those who prune trees, maintain gardens and suggest landscape arrangements based on their experience.

To better understand this, we’ll compare it with the building trades.

In France, this can be understood as follows:

Landscape designers (from landscape schools)

École nationale supérieure de paysage (Versailles and Marseille)

École nationale supérieure d’architecture et de paysage (Bordeaux, Lille)

Landscape engineering schools (Angers, Blois, Lille)

École Supérieure d’Architecture des Jardins (Paris)

Depending on their specialties, these schools award the titles of D.P.L.G. Landscape Designer, Landscape Architect or Landscape Engineer.

By comparison, in the building trade, this corresponds to an architect and/or design engineer.

It’s easy to see why these training courses are aimed at landscapers for large-scale projects, but not necessarily for our small areas.

However, some landscape architects specialize in private gardens. Expect to pay a minimum of €300 for a landscaping trail.

They will be needed if you want to make major changes to volumes or carry out earthworks on a sloping site, for example.

Secondly, and this concerns the vast majority of landscapers :

Landscape gardener

BTSA Aménagements Paysagers, BAC PRO Aménagements Paysagers, CAPA Travaux Paysagers, Brevet Professionnel Agricole Travaux d’aménagements paysagers, specialization Travaux de création et d’entretien, Certificat de Qualification Professionnelle (CQP) maçonnerie paysagère.

They’re more like the garden’s masons: they know the terrain, the plants, they’re operational. Just as a bricklayer can create a charming, simple house on a flat plot of land, a landscape gardener can create quality landscaping .

These are the people who mainly work in our gardens and terraces, excelling in garden decoration and acting as “outdoor decorators”. When creating a garden, be sure to ask about the training of the person you are dealing with, so that you can choose professionals with reliable training.

The last solution is to use inexpensive garden design software, such as the one on our site: MyGardenDesigner.
