If possible, avoid placing sensitive species in draughts, and opt for locations backed by a windproof wall (ideally south-facing), which can also be used to support a small greenhouse for winter protection to limit the effects of the cold on your plants.
For an exotic effect, opt for plants with large foliage (banana, fatsia…), even if it means potting them in pots, which you can incorporate into your flower bed in summer and move into your veranda in winter.
For flowering, opt for warm colors: red and variations on red… for an immediate tropical effect.
